Crucible
Tears rise in the corners of her widened eyes, as her lips curl around the dirty cloth– tied so tightly her cheeks are beginning to swell. The executioner lights the end of his torch from the tips of those in the crowd — so eager to assist when justice is being served — and then holds it steady between the logs, dry and thick, chosen specifically to burn as long as possible, at her feet. My life in haiku
As you’ve likely noticed, I’ve basically been MIA for most of August and September; and while it isn’t unheard of for me to sort of disappear the first weeks of a school year as my priorities shift and wriggle and find their way into a new balance (or imbalance, as the case may be), I feel a bit guilty for sort of dropping my baby project in the water and letting it learn to swim on its own. August’s Erotic Poetry Challenge: “Magnetic Poetry”
August’s optional theme is “Magnetic Poetry” As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I’ve been on vacation for the past couple of weeks, so this month’s poetry challenge will be a bit abbreviated in length. There are so many words and so many ways we can combine them to communicate and create. So this month, the challenge is to collect words and then, like a puzzle, put them together to create a poem. I’ve been writing a series of #tinypoems on Twitter the past several days, and I think I will continue to challenge myself to do this. It’s a good early-morning-while-drinking-my-coffee activity to get my brain moving and my emotions bubbling. She lies in sheets of cotton, warm and white, her skin attentive to the subtle weight. Newly awake, her thoughts are soft and light, no worries yet to mar her thoughtful state.
