    December 2020 Erotic Poetry Challenge

December’s optional themes are “Advent,” “12 Days,” or “Winter,” Or “The Night Before…” This month, either write a winter-themed poem… …or tackle some sort of “12 Days” theme. That could be 12 poems or one poem about the 12 Days. Maybe you have an accompanying image for each of them? I’m a big fan of “copy change” poems, especially to get the creative juices flowing. This is when you take a poem from someone else and use the format to create your own. You could re-write the “12 Days of Christmas” to be the “12 Days of…something sexy or erotic or sensual.” Or maybe try a new version of “The…

November Erotic Poetry Challenge: “Grateful, Thankful, Blessed”

November’s optional theme is “Gratitude” or “Thankfulness” This month, write poems of gratitude or thankfulness…but remember…this is an EROTIC poetry challenge…so make ’em sexy or sensual (at least)! I’m a big fan of “copy change” poems, especially to get the creative juices flowing. This is when you take a poem from someone else and use the format to create your own. Here is a great one to use this month. It is from my one of my favorite poets – Mary Oliver. Gratitude What did you notice? The dew-snail; the low-flying sparrow; the bat, on the wind, in the dark; big-chested geese, in the V of sleekest performance; the soft toad,…

    Crucible

Tears rise in the corners of her widened eyes, as her lips curl around the dirty cloth– tied so tightly her cheeks are beginning to swell. The executioner lights the end of his torch from the tips of those in the crowd — so eager to assist when justice is being served — and then holds it steady between the logs, dry and thick, chosen specifically to burn as long as possible, at her feet. The crowd moves as one, a mass of angry starlings hungry for retribution, their cries bleeding together in vicious condemnation: “Burn the witch!” Better to kill her in solidarity than let her live in opposition…

    My life in haiku

As you’ve likely noticed, I’ve basically been MIA for most of August and September; and while it isn’t unheard of for me to sort of disappear the first weeks of a school year as my priorities shift and wriggle and find their way into a new balance (or imbalance, as the case may be), I feel a bit guilty for sort of dropping my baby project in the water and letting it learn to swim on its own. Thankfully, it’s clumsily treading water. I’m just barely starting to feel a sense of calm, but I’m still struggling with the technological aspects of my new situation. Since I’m now working remotely,…

    September’s Erotic Poetry Challenge: Haiku

September’s optional theme is “Haiku” Haiku are fairly easy to write, since they are short and do not need to rhyme. They follow a syllable pattern for each line: 5 syllables on line 1, 7 syllables on line 2, and 5 syllables on line 3. They were traditionally about nature, but now days people write them about pretty much anything…so why not sex, eh? Here are the basics: The Erotic Poetry Challenge is a MONTHLY CHALLENGE with an optional THEME and optional weekly prompts (just to give you ideas). But keep in mind: –you can link-up when you want (one time or many) –you can ignore the theme and prompts altogether and…

August’s Erotic Poetry Challenge: “Magnetic Poetry”

August’s optional theme is “Magnetic Poetry” As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I’ve been on vacation for the past couple of weeks, so this month’s poetry challenge will be a bit abbreviated in length. There are so many words and so many ways we can combine them to communicate and create. So this month, the challenge is to collect words and then, like a puzzle, put them together to create a poem. This can be done with magnetic poetry, magazines (cut out words you like and then assemble them to create a poem), or simply by collecting words in a list to draw from. I’ll post a few weekly prompts to…

    #tinypoem

I’ve been writing a series of #tinypoems on Twitter the past several days, and I think I will continue to challenge myself to do this. It’s a good early-morning-while-drinking-my-coffee activity to get my brain moving and my emotions bubbling. And it’s not so demanding or intimidating as committing myself to a longer poem (which can take hours…or days…or years, as the case may be). Here are the ones I have come up with so far: 1 I am drawn to his vibrance… burning from within is compulsory. 2 (haiku) The heat of your mouth upon my skin spreads like ink on a blank page. 3 Our bodies curve together like…

    Incomparable

She lies in sheets of cotton, warm and white, her skin attentive to the subtle weight. Newly awake, her thoughts are soft and light, no worries yet to mar her thoughtful state. Her fingers wander gently to her thighs, slow and hungry, snaking in between: heat. Knees spread petal-like, her back arches high, breath held, she readies herself for release. Fingers circle, separate, and ignite, as he watches roses bloom in her cheeks — body rigid with pleasure, muscles tight, momentarily, until their eyes meet. If nothing else, today there will be this: self-love shared is an incomparable gift. Masturbating for an audience is not something that makes me very…

July’s Erotic Poetry Challenge: “Poems as Inspiration”

July’s optional theme is “Poems as Inspiration.” (scroll down for the weekly prompts) Reading is a way to fill up the well of imagination, and so it makes sense that reading poetry would fill up the well of your poetic imagination. Seeing the way another uses language, breaks lines, uses rhyme or rhythm can help us to use those things in new ways, as well. Those poets become our guides, our models, and our muses. I might even challenge you to read a poem a day and see where that takes you! I often find that if I read a few poems, I am inspired to write one of my…
