Wild (FPF 3)
I can’t remember why I read Wild by Cheryl Strayed, or even when…but I know I finished in a weekend. This is exactly the kind of memoir that I love – a confessional narrative that is raw, honest, rich with personal introspection, questions, and lessons to be learned. I also enjoyed the movie, which came out shortly after I finished reading the book. Here’s an interesting related article. I live near the PCT. We’ve actually hiked part of it (and while it was beautiful, it was tough…balancing on giant rocks along the waterline, planning around the tides, sandy beaches, climbing ladders overland when we couldn’t hike around them). While…

The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath (FPF 2)
Perhaps when we find ourselves wanting everything, it is because we are dangerously close to wanting nothing. Sylvia Plath I can’t remember when I fell for Plath. Probably sometime in college. This was a time when I was coming to terms with my own “creative madness,” and I’m sure I felt some measure of connection with the yearning, confusion, and imbalance of Plath’s poetry. Somewhere in there I also watched the film, Sylvia. It didn’t do well by critics, but fuck it…I liked it, and I’d recommend it if you are at all interested in Plath’s life. (Or for a quick run down the internet rabbit hole…

February Photofest 2022 – Literary Nudes Series
Welcome to February Photofest 2022! I’m excited to share some of my favorite books and authors through this process. I’ve already got photos for this first week lined up…I think this is the first time I’ve been this prepared for the challenge. I organize my shelves by genre, so I’m just going to take a journey, in order, through the stacks. This week, I’ll be starting with memoir. Not everything I own, by any means, but a selection of my favorites. Memoir is one of my favorite genres, and certainly my favorite type of non-fiction. I love feeling like I’m sitting having coffee with the author, and that they are…

Uncomfortable
I share a lot of images of myself on this site. But, it often makes me uncomfortable to really show myself as I am. The lumps and bumps. The saggy mom-tummy. The gravitational pull on my breasts. The stretch marks. The cellulite. The rolls. The extra skin. In fact…all the “extra” that I wish wasn’t there. But…it is. And, every once in a great while, I share that truth in the images I post. Today is one of those days. Be kind. I’m reminding myself to do that, as well.

The inevitable slow down…
“Furious activity is not substitute for understanding.” H.H. Williams Last week’s review/preview was overwhelming, I know. For you…and for me. But, that’s how beginnings tend to be for me…fast, furious, manic…full of energy and possibility and want. And then reality slows my roll, and I find the cracks, the crevices, and the things that must change for my plans to be sustainable. I don’t necessarily over-plan. I just plan more than is necessary so I have room to move and choose what fits best. Now that I’ve lived my plans for a few weeks, I am tailoring them to fit “just right.” It’s a journey I take repeatedly throughout…

The Sex Life I Crave
If I were to describe the sex life I’ve had in the past, the words I’d use would be all over the board. Vanilla/non-monogamous, safe/adventurous, unsatisfying/delicious, boring/mind-blowing. I’ve had all types of sex, in all kinds of situations, with many different people in the past 29 years. In my marriage, even, sex has worn many hats. It has been a positive force, a stress, an intimate connection, a creative process, an adventure, a weight…but always a journey. I expect that it will continue to be all of these things, and more, as we age together ungracefully, as we are most likely to do. I don’t want to put a ton…

Snow Day!
I do love an (un)expected snow day! ❄ I get to say no to real pants & a bra and yes to my book, a nap, day sex, and blogging! Actually, I got up at my normal time (5:30), and did my normal routine (coffee, snuggling with the cat, and journaling), since I didn’t already know school was canceled. Then we got the note for a delay, which meant I could relax and slow my roll. But things are super icy out, so by 7, the call came out for a snow day! It’s a spectacular day so far, too. Sunny, blue sky, with the promise of more snow later…

State of the Union
I’ve done a State of the Union post at the beginning of the year before. Just a description of where my sex life and marriage is today…to get the lay of the land, so to speak. It’s hard to decide where to go next if you aren’t fully aware of where you are now and where you’ve been…and we’ve been a lot of places. Currently, we’re getting back on the horse, after a long stint of slowly falling apart. I’ve only recently reviewed that, so I won’t rehash it here. But, we are currently doing okay 👍. We’ve had sex a few times (instigated from both sides) and have agreed…

Brigit: Unwrapped – Orange is the Happiest Color
I’ve been working on diversifying the colors in my lingerie drawer. It’s not hard to do with my matched sets, but I do notice that the majority of “sexy” lingerie is sold in black, white, red, and purple, with a bit of pink and blue thrown in to mix it up from time to time. Maybe this is because guys tend to prefer black and red? I’m not sure. I’m sure someone has done the product analysis, and that has determined the colors that are more often purchased by stores. But, I get tired of the same old same old, So when I see things in prints, or in…
