This year’s theme is “Close Ups.”
“There are always two people in every picture: the photographer and the viewer.”
What then, if you are both subject and photographer? When you are both behind and in front of the lens? A duality of vision and performance. One part of me guiding, positioning, trying desperately to get the other part of me to do and be what I see in my head. And even then, when I know exactly what I want to see through the lens, I cannot always live up to my own vision. That is the most difficult thing about art, I believe…having a vision that you cannot create exactly as your mind’s eye sees it.
I find I am often my most difficult subject.
